Let’s talk Glee. [Unless you haven’t seen last night’s episode yet and are spoiler-averse.] On the whole, “Funeral” was a pretty weird episode; as EW recapper Sandra Gonzalez notes, it was shockingly streamlined and often difficult to watch. “Funeral” also toned Sue way, way down, a choice that was especially jarring considering it came after a whole spate of episodes in which she’s acted even more cartoonishly than usual (torturing Artie with dentist tools in her office, anyone?).

So here’s my question: Do you think the episode worked? Or do you think that Glee has gotten too fanciful to attempt an hour like this, which tried to inspire real emotion in its viewers?

  2. chasehall answered: It was my favorite episode of the season. It was really hard to follow up with PROM. Sue was played down, I don’t like the Fin story
  3. treatyoselfartie reblogged this from entertainmentweekly
  4. colormelauren answered: It didn’t work for me
  5. laury-kos answered: I think sue character has gone over the top, to the point it got ridiculous, so…this episode was a try out for redemption
  6. miss-prissy answered: I think you guys are going way too deep. It was a funeral episode, it wasn’t supposed to be easy and fun. I thought it was great.
  7. musiccolliding answered: It was incredible.
  8. aliterarylion answered: I cried so hard…
  9. uh-my-fucking-nightmare answered: não
  10. onlyannie reblogged this from entertainmentweekly and added:
You know Glee is about selling Itunes singles firsts, summer tour tickets second, and acting and quality third, right?
  11. dressesdancingandtv answered: I think the emotional plots feel a bit too in your face these days. They play to the tweens now, there’s just no denying it. Not good.
  12. spaceyism answered: To me, Sue is always at her best when she puts aside the crazy part of her and shows real emotion. Those are often my favorite episodes.
  13. amaliamo answered: I think it’s always funny for Sue to be almost ridiculously evil, but nice to put that aside and show some real emotion.
  14. smoonie answered: Episode was fairly good, Murphy needs to re-evaluate what juxtaposition did for him at the beginning of the first season.
  15. lizcantstopthebeat answered: The episode worked. It was extremely sad but it showed a human side of Sue. And the battle for the solo was incredible. Lea Michele killed it
  16. lazygoldfishrocks answered: well, they needed an episode that’ll give Lynch another Emmy :/
  17. gillies-irons answered: I think it worked alright. And if it ends Sue’s ridiculous vendetta against the Glee club, it definitely did.
  18. henriklemon answered: As a critical Glee viewer, I actually liked the hour, the thing is when Glee is good, it’s good, but when it’s bad, it’s well…frustrating
  19. nakedsecret answered: havinig lost a loved one, made me cry like a baby.
  20. mirandawrites answered: The whole affair felt totally contrived. I usually have to suspend my disbelief when watching this show, but Ryan Murphy lost me here.
  21. msalling answered: I’ve had enough of Rachel pining after Finn. He’s an idiot. Why are the writers afraid of pursuing the Rachel/Puck relationship?
  22. corycorybobory answered: I hope it’s a move to give Sue more depth & to allow Jane Lynch to shine. She’s one of the best actors on TV & her talent is being wasted now
  23. thefruitshoot answered: It was terrible, just another way to make Finn look good and someone else look bad. So sick of Finchel.
  24. mylittledish answered: I think it ABSOLUTELY worked. It’s nice to finally see some real depth mixed in to the light-hearted campy goodness that we all know & love.
  25. inmybubble answered: I actually liked it better than a lot of stuff they’ve done recently. It inspired emotion in me!
  26. ifbirdsflyover answered: It worked. It felt like filler, but it worked.
  27. fafafab answered: it was brilliant, and Glee has always been ambibalent on the subject of character realism
