Some Americans are making preparations for World War Z.
Discovery Channel has ordered the documentary special Zombie Apocalypse, which examines whether a walking dead-style invasion is actually possible and introduces a quartet of people from various backgrounds who are readying themselves, just in case. It airs Tuesday, Dec. 18 — just in time for the end of the world!
EW has learned that Mythbusters will air a Breaking Bad-themed episode — featuring creator Vince Gilligan and star Aaron Paul. Among other things, they’ll look into what happens when a body, a bathtub, and hydrochloric acid are combined.
Just don’t expect to see the crew test Walt’s highly illegal blue crystal meth recipe: “We have no interest in increasing the public’s knowledge about how to make methamphetamine,” host Adam Savage told us.
This Sunday, MythBusters takes on its most requested myth: Did Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) needlessly die in James Cameron’s Titanic, or could he and Rose (Kate Winslet) have both fit onto that piece of wood? We’ve got exclusive video from the episode on EW.com.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: When you’re putting together a series like this, how do you balance “happy endings” — like a gentoo penguin escaping a southern sea lion multiple times on land — and sad ones, like the Weddell seal being targeted by the orcas, which is both absolutely fascinating and excruciating to watch.
CHADDEN HUNTER: To me, that’s the most emotionally-draining sequence of the whole series. But then the power of it — it is nature and it is what happens. So part of conveying it is capturing that drama that these animals have to deal with day in and day out.
VANESSA BERLOWITZ: We do think quite carefully about how we pace those sequences and in what order. We really wanted to have a light moment — it’s very uplifting when the penguin gets away — because we knew the ending of the orca sequence. We had lots of debates about whether to show that shot

Andy Samberg is living every week like it’s… well, you know. He has the honor of serving as host — or Chief Shark Officer — for Discovery’s 24th annual Shark Week, which kicks off July 31. This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly also has a first look at Samberg swimming with Caribbean reef sharks for a special airing Aug. 4, Shark City.
“They were definitely dumping tons of bloody meat into the water all around me,” the comedian told EW. “I knew that they needed to do it to get the sharks over there, but there’s also a part of me that was like, have you guys heard of Photoshop?”
The guys behind Discovery’s Storm Chasers were filming their show in Alabama and Mississippi on April 27 when nearly 200 tornadoes occurred in the region — the worst tornado outbreak since 1974. Discovery will present their footage and their stories in a documentary special, Tornado Rampage 2011, which will air Sunday, May 22 at 9 p.m. Check out a few stunning pics, plus video from the special, at EW.com.
