This week, EW is feeling pretty dauntless.

A long time ago, we used to be friends with a whip-smart teen sleuth named Veronica Mars. Now, thanks to a historic Kickstarter campaign, Mars is back in Neptune — this time on the big screen. And we’ve got all the scoop on her big return.

This week, EW pays tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman — widely considered the greatest stage and screen actor of his generation. We’ll miss you, Philip.

Oh yes — it’s that time of year again.

Yup.

PSA: You might want to check back tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. ET to see who’s covering our next issue. Just a hint.

This week in EW: It’s our big 2014 preview issue, complete with your first look at Gone Girl — a photo shot by director David Fincher himself. (Spooky, right?)

This week in EW: We know you’re excited to watch the ball drop and ring in the new year. But you wouldn’t want to say goodbye to 2013 without first reviewing pop culture’s high points (Gravity! Orange is the New Black!), low points (Big Brother, What Would Ryan Lochte Do?), and, uh, divisive points (pretty much anything involving Miley Cyrus and/or the word “twerk”), would you? Would you?!?!?!

This week, we let Amy and Tina take over EW — and they clearly took the job very seriously, as you can see from their opening letter to readers:

"If you are reading this ‘Letter From the Guest Editors,’ it probably means you have read all the other parts of the magazine at least five times and are in some kind of isolated and desperate situation. If it’s a bathroom emergency, try elevating your feet on an upturned wastebasket. If you are in the trunk of a drug lord’s car, try doing that thing Walter White does where he throws chemicals at the ground and they explode."

It’s that time again: This week in EW, we rank the year’s top 10 movies, TV shows, albums, singles, and books. Take a seat, put up your feet, and get comfy; this may take awhile.
